Julie Harnik Honored as CAPP’s
2009 Community Hero

On May 7th, CAPP honored Julie Harnik as the 2009 Community Hero at its Corks for CAPP fundraising event. The event was held at Fashionopolus at LIM and raised over $5,000 to benefit CAPP’s programs.
Ms. Harnik, who is a Producer, Associate Media Director at MediaVest, has been involved with CAPP for over four years through the Young Professionals Committee and New Generations Committee. Most recently, Ms. Harnik produced a Public Service Announcement featuring Kids on the Block puppets Stephen and Melody to educate children about their right to be safe. The PSA is available through Time Warner Cable’s Kids OnDemand channel under the title, "Child Safety."

CAPP Announces 2009 Founders' Award Recipients
CAPP will honor Ms. Sandra Lee and Mr. Harry Poulakakos with the 2009 Founders’ Award at its annual Benefit Dinner on October 20, 2009 at Bridgewaters in South Street Seaport.

Ms. Sandra Lee is editor-in-chief of Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade magazine, a popular television host, and an internationally-acclaimed home and food expert who has revolutionized the way people think about homemade. With her trademark 70/30 Semi-Homemade® philosophy, which combines 70% ready-made products with 30% fresh and creative touches, Sandra is recognized as the foremost advocate to over-extended people. Ms. Lee also hosts the new Food Network show, Sandra’s Money Saving Meals, which features incredible budget-friendly recipes for every day of the week, all based on her "triple A factor" of accessible, aspirational and affordable.

Mr. Harry Poulakakos ranks among New York City's most beloved restaurateurs and a pillar of the Lower Manhattan community. Born in a small town outside of Sparta, Greece, Harry came to the U.S. in 1956, and soon after starting working at the celebrated eatery Delmonico's. In 1972, Mr. Poulakakos opened Harry’s of Hanover Square, which was located in the India House, with his late wife Adrienne. Although the restaurant closed in 2003, it reopened in May 2006 as Harry’s Café and Steak. Other restaurants owned by Mr. Poulakakos and his family include Adrienne’s Pizzabar, Bayard's, Financier Patisserie, and Ulysses. Charity Buzz Auction Raises over $10,000 to benefit CAPP’s Programs!
From April 21-May 7, bids were placed at CharityBuzz.com for an Online Auction to raise funds to support CAPP’s Child Safety Workshop. Among CAPP’s auction items were four tickets to an Irving Plaza show plus dinner, a Bon Jovi signed guitar, a meeting with music executive John Titta, and a portrait sitting with Renaissance Portraits. The auction raised over $10,000 to allow CAPP to continue to educate school children on their right to be safe.

Buy Band From TV CD to benefit CAPP!
Hoggin All the Covers, the latest Band from TV CD/DVD, is now available exclusively at Amazon.com. Proceeds from the sale of the CD/DVD, which includes covers such as "Lean on Me", "Mustang Sally", and "Viva Las Vegas", will be donated to charities, including CAPP.

Band from TV is a nine-piece musical ensemble set up by Greg Grunberg, star of the hit-show Heroes. The band also features the talents of Bonnie Somerville from Cashmere Mafia, Teri Hatcher and James Denton from Desperate Housewives, Hugh Laurie and Jesse Spencer from House, and Bob Guiney from Date My House. Funds raised from the band’s engagements are split between members and then each donates to the cause they feel most passionate about. Band member Bonnie Somerville has selected CAPP as one of her charities of choice.
